Quick start

  1. Launch the app — the "MoMo" icon appears in the menu bar (no Dock icon).
  2. Click it and choose Prevent Sleep or Awake When Closed, or pick a preset from Scene (top-right).
  3. For automation: Preferences → Triggers (e.g. When a specific process is running with claude).

Shortcut: ⌃⌥⌘K toggles Prevent Sleep.

FAQ

Difference between Prevent Sleep and Awake When Closed?

ScreenSystemBest for
Prevent SleepMay turn offStays awake (tasks keep running)Downloads, builds, backups — most efficient
Awake When ClosedOffStays awake even with the lid closedRunning in a bag, as a server

Display off ≠ system sleep. The CPU keeps running with the screen off; only system sleep freezes processes.

Does Awake When Closed drain the battery or run hot? It can. That's why there's an orange warning, Stop on low battery is on by default, and we recommend plugging in. If the system forces sleep due to overheating, no app can prevent it.

I closed the lid and forgot to turn it off? Stop on low battery protects you; the app restores normal sleep on quit / crash / restart. After an abnormal exit, it restores the mode you manually started and notifies you; a normal quit leaves it off. Trigger-driven sessions are not restored.

Troubleshooting "it still slept with the lid closed": Check the diagnostic log (every state change records the reason and the lid state):

# Direct-distribution build
tail -30 ~/Library/Logs/HeyWakeup.log
# Mac App Store build (inside the sandbox container)
tail -30 ~/Library/Containers/com.heywakeup.app/Data/Library/Logs/HeyWakeup.log

Why does Awake When Closed need no password? It needs no password or permission and doesn't change your system settings; the state lasts only for the current run and is released when you quit.

Why didn't a trigger work? Check that triggers are enabled in Preferences → Triggers. Clicking Off suspends automatic take-over until all trigger conditions clear (or you change a rule, or tap Resume). Triggers are also blocked while the battery is low or the device is hot.

Launch at login not working? Make sure the toggle is on in Preferences › General. macOS 13+ uses system login items; the Mac App Store version on macOS 12 launches via an embedded login helper (effective at next login). If it still fails, please report it.

Does it upload my data? No. The app itself uploads no data; in the Mac App Store version, in-app purchase transactions are handled by the system's StoreKit and Apple. See the Privacy Policy.
