Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-18 Scope: HeyWakeup for macOS (Mac App Store and direct-distribution builds)
In one line
HeyWakeup does not collect, transmit, or share any of your personal data.
1. What we don't collect
HeyWakeup has no accounts, no analytics SDK, no ads, and no crash reporting, and does no user tracking of any kind. We cannot see:
- How you use the app;
- Your device information or OS version;
- Which programs you run or what you download;
- Your battery, network, or file contents.
2. Where data is stored
The following stays only on your own Mac and never leaves the device:
| Data | Location | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Preferences (mode, duration, triggers, scenes) | App preferences (UserDefaults) | Remember your settings |
| Usage statistics (session start/end, mode, automatic) | sessions.json in the App Support directory | Show duration breakdown in Statistics |
| Diagnostic log (lid-closed on/off, session start/stop) | HeyWakeup.log in the App log directory | Troubleshoot "why didn't it work" |
| Compatibility report (generated only when you export it) | The location you choose | Send to support to diagnose lid-closed compatibility; no serial number, hostname, account, or purchase credentials |
- Mac App Store build: the files above live inside the app's sandbox container.
- You can clear usage statistics in Preferences → Statistics; deleting the app removes all local data.
3. Network access
- Mac App Store build: the app itself uploads no data; in-app purchase transactions are handled by the system's StoreKit and Apple (updates are handled by the App Store).
- Direct-distribution build: only contacts the update feed you configure, to check for new versions. That request:
- uses HTTPS;
- carries no user identifier, device identifier, or usage data;
- only reads the version number and download link.
4. System permissions
HeyWakeup does not require Accessibility permission, a kernel extension, or Full Disk Access.
- Prevent Sleep: uses macOS power assertions (equivalent to the built-in
caffeinate). - Awake When Closed: asks the system power manager to skip lid-closed sleep for this session. The state is valid only while the app is running and is released on quit / crash / restart.
- Some triggers read (read-only): running process names, CPU usage, network throughput, whether audio is playing, and lid state. This data is used only in memory on your Mac and is never recorded or uploaded.
5. Children's privacy
The app is not directed to children and collects no data from users of any age.
6. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Since we collect no data, changes are usually wording clarifications.
